Penn State Team Wins Student Competition
New this year at the national Sports Turf Manager's Conference in Phoenix, students participated in the inaugural Student Collegiate Challenge. Fifteen teams from various colleges and universities participated in a written exam on sports turf and sports field topics and identified live plants and weeds.
Winning first place was Pennsylvania State University with Shawn Mahonski, Kristen Althouse, Kyle Slaton and Shaun Meredith. Also pictured is Dr. Andrew McNitt (coach). Second and third place finishers were Iowa State and Colorado State, respectively.
The Students would like to thank Keystone Atheltic Field Manager's Association for their finacial assistance in attending the conference. The students would also like to thank those who took the time to help with evening training sessions including: Dr. Peter Landschoot, Dr. Max Schlossberg, Mr. Mike Soika, Mr. Robert Raley, Mr. Jeff Borger, Mr. Dave Livingston, Mr. Dan Douglas, and Mr. Jeff Fowler.
