Pennsylvania Farm*A*Syst Publications
A series of worksheets plus guidance materials designed for statewide use in Pennsylvania was developed in 1997 as part of a cooperative effort among Penn State Cooperative Extension, Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The first six worksheets covered water wells, pesticide and fertilizer storage and handling, household wastewater, barnyard conditions, milkhouse waste, and streams and drainageways. A seventh worksheet covering petroleum storage and handling was added in 1999. Since then, the Farm*A*Syst packet was supplemented with worksheets covering silage storage, animal waste storage, animal waste land application, and soil conservation. Worksheets on such topics as pastureland management, animal concentration areas, winter feeding areas, and poultry production are currently being developed.
