Course Description
This course covers the plant, animal, and environmental factors which relate to forage plant establishment, management, productivity, and utilization. Forage plants species will be discussed from the standpoint of the morphology and physiology which affect their responses to management. Species and variety selection for different management systems and environments will be discussed. Ruminant animal activities in regard to managing and utilizing forages will be discussed. Grazing and mechanical forage harvesting systems will be explored from the standpoint of animal and plant activities and forage quality aspects. Problems will be designed to explore the decision-making process involved in designing, establishing, and managing forage-animal production systems.
