Applying to the Graduate Program

Here’s How to Apply

The process of applying for admission to graduate school at Penn State requires the following application materials, some of which are submitted to The Graduate School (items 1. and 2. below), and others that should be sent directly to this graduate program (items 3. through 7.):

  1. An official GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION (Submitted electronically).
  2. Application fee.
  3. Official transcripts (two (2) copies).
  4. Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)
  5. Standardized test scores (as required by the graduate program).
    • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. The school code for Penn State is 2660. The department code for Agronomy is 0104. The department code for Soil Sciences is 0114.
    • TOEFL Scores. Each international applicant whose first language is not English or who have not received a baccalaureate or masters degree from an institution in which the language of instruction is English must complete the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). An original report of your score is required. The school code for Penn State is 2660. The Department code is 31.
  6. Three letters of recommendation.
  7. Statement of purpose.

STEP 1

Items to be sent to the Graduate School:

  1. The GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION can be submitted electronically:
  2. The Graduate School Application provides for payment of the application fee by Credit card. If you do not pay by credit card, please download a copy of the Application Fee Form that can be accessed from the Electronic Application, and mail that form along with your payment of the non-refundable application fee to:

APPLICATIONS WITHOUT FEE PAYMENT CANNOT BE PROCESSED. DO NOT SEND CASH. Make checks payable to The Pennsylvania State University. International money orders or checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank. Your canceled check serves as your receipt.

STEP 2

Items to be sent to the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences:

  1. Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended, both undergraduate and graduate (Item 3 in the list of application materials). Obtain a Transcript Request Form, Type On and Print.

    International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English. Notarized copies are not sufficient.
  2. Standardized test scores as required.
  3. Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)
  4. Three letters of recommendation.
  5. Statement of purpose.
